Alan Surratt, born on July 8, 1967, in Portsmouth, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at his home in Candler, North Carolina. As family and friends remember him, it is with deep respect and affection for the life he lived, the bonds he nurtured, and the legacy he leaves behind.
Alan’s life was defined not only by his love for family and community but also by his deep appreciation for the outdoors. He found joy and solace in the quiet moments spent fishing—feeling most alive when surrounded by the beauty of nature. Horses held a special place in his heart, and his love for these magnificent animals reflected his gentle spirit and steady nature. Alan also cherished the camaraderie found at turkey shoots, both as a participant and as a companion, enjoying the sense of fellowship these gatherings brought.
Alan was a long-time member of Dana Baptist Church. His faith was a guiding light throughout his life, offering him strength in times of need and an unwavering sense of purpose. Alan contributed to the life of the church, forming lifelong friends and becoming an integral part of its community.
Deeply devoted to his family, Alan is survived by his mother, Charlotte Yvette Parris Surratt; his sister, Natalie Michelle Guess and her husband Jason; his brothers: James Craig Surratt and his wife Beverly, as well as Robert "Bobby" Dean Surratt and his wife Amy. He was a beloved uncle to Megan, Jessica, Ashley, and Evie; and great-uncle to Bradley, Kinsley, Emory, and Ethan, who held a significant place in his life.
Alan carries with him the memory of his father, Franklin Jay Surratt, and his beloved companion, Charline Debra Renee Shook, both of whom preceded him in death.
Those who knew Alan will remember his steadfast kindness, the warmth of his laughter, and his unwavering loyalty. His love for the outdoors, his church, and his family are enduring parts of his legacy, which will be cherished for generations to come. To all who mourn his passing, Alan’s memory serves as a gentle reminder of the beauty, wonder, and connections found in everyday moments.
A service to celebrate Alan's life will be held at a later date.

He will be deeply missed, celebrated, and remembered by those whose lives he touched.
