Anna Mae Shelton Bowman

Barnardsville - Anna Mae Smith Shelton Bowman, 88, of 202 Johnstone Road, Cleveland, NC formerly of Barnardsville, died May 8, 2008 after several years of declining health. A native of Barnardsville, she was a homemaker and mother of 10 children. She was the daughter of the late J. B. and Molly Burleson Smith and was also preceded in death by 2 husbands, Eli Marion Shelton and George Washington Bowman; 2 sons, Larry Dale Shelton and Alvin Edward Shelton; granddaughter, Crystal Gail Crissy Banks; grandson, Derek Gene Harwood; daughter-in-law, Maxine Lindsey Shelton and son-in-law, Paul Frank Gray 111. Survivors include 4 sons, Charles Shelton of Asheville, Glenn Shelton of Black Mountain, Doyle Eugene Shelton of Cleveland, NC and Johnny Allen of Swannanoa; 4 daughters, Florence Irene Wheeler of Asheville, Alice Louise Gray of Thurmond, Alma Gail Harwood of Barnardsville and Barbara Ann Gardner of Asheville; 24 grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Monday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Zack Sizemore and Rev. Darryl Searcy officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
