Arnold Elbert Smith

Fletcher - Arnold Elbert Smith, 88, of 135 Emmas Grove Road died Friday November 5, 2004 at Emerald Ridge Rehabilitation & Care Center after a period of declining health. A native of Yancey County, he had lived in Asheville since 1949. He retired from Southern Concrete Materials after more than 40 years of service and was a member of Emmas Grove Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Walter and Lyda Robinson Smith and was also preceded in death by his brother, Oval Smith and sister, Avis Hensley. Surviving are his wife, Gladys Riddle Smith; sons, Billy J. Smith and wife Marietta P. Smith of Asheville and Mackey Smith and wife Kennie Smith of Lake Lure ; daughter, Louise Smith Matthews of Asheville; 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory with the Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen officiating. The family will be at the home of Billy J. and Marietta Smith, 183 Ramsey Road.
