Betty Ann Markland Sams

Woodfin – Betty Ann Markland Sams, 86, went to be with the Lord on Thursday February 19, 2026. at her residence while surround by family.

A native of Besoco, WV, she was the daughter of the late Larry and Molly Markland. She was proceeded in death by her husband: Gerald “Jerry” Sams, daughter: Donna Roberts, great-grandson: Cole Roberts, siblings: Pat Lynch, Jerry Markland, Larry Markland, Charlotte Kurucz, Leonard Markland.

Betty was a member of Connection Point Church of God since 1973 and was a member of the Men and Women of Action Ministry where she served as a missionary on over 100 mission trips around the world spreading the love of Jesus Christ. She retired from Bell South in 1998 after 40 plus years of service. In addition to Betty’s love and service to her Lord and Savior, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many, she will be greatly missed.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children; Dennis Sams, Linda Woodby; grandchildren: Natalie Sams, Nicole Sams Warren (Alex), Mark Roberts, Alysia Sams Wilson (Bill), Tiffany Woodby, Rachel Roberts, Bethany Moore (Robert), Justin Sams (Lauren), Charlie Woodby; great-grandchildren: Israel McKinney, Kayla McKinney, Jadon McClain, Avery McClain, Joseph Wilson, Madison Wilson, Skyler Roberts, Scarlet Roberts, Ethan Roberts, Eadie Roberts, Farrah Lasher, Seth Moore, Bailey Moore, Luke Moore; siblings: Blaine Markland, June Wolfe, and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, in the Chapel of Anders Rice & Roper Funeral Home with Pastor Stan Asher officiating. Burial will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1 until 1:45 PM.
