Bobby "Bob" Joe Conard

Bobby “Bob” Joe Conard passed away peacefully on August 22, 2026, at Mission Hospital in Asheville. A native of Haywood County who spent most of his life residing in Buncombe County, Bob was the embodiment of a loving husband, father, and brother—a man whose devotion to those he loved knew no bounds.

Born on February 5, 1941, in Haywood County, Bob’s roots ran deep in Western North Carolina. From a young age, he developed a strong sense of family and community that would shape every chapter of his life. He dedicated over fifty years to owning and operating Conard Services, where he installed septic systems and developed property throughout the region. Through tireless work and honest service, Bob and his business became a cornerstone in his community. Today, his legacy continues as Conard Company and operates under the leadership of his son, Joe.

Bob cherished his family above all. He is survived by his devoted wife, Lucille S. Conard, who was his steadfast partner in all aspects of life. Together they raised a close-knit family, including their sons, Joe Conard and life partner Frances, and Rick Conard and wife Lisa; and his daughter, Sheila Hathaway and husband David.

He delighted in his grandchildren: Casey Conard and wife Gloria, David Conard, Haleigh Thompson, Sommer Brown and husband Joe, Clinton Lawing, as well as in the lives of his great-grandchildren: Carter, Lexie, Jayden, Harper, Malone, Mikayla and husband Foster, and Josiah; and his great-great-grandchildren: Aria, and Jasper. Bob’s family extended to his brothers, Howard Conard and Johnny Conard, and his sisters-in-law, Ruth and Christina Conard. Many nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and his cherished church family at Starnes Cove Baptist Church were close to his heart.

Bob is reunited in eternal peace with his beloved family members who preceded him in death: his father, Arthur Allen Conard; his mother, Rosa “Maw” Bell Medley Conard; granddaughter, Ashley La-Chea Conard; and his siblings: James Earnest Conard, Claude Allison, J.D. Conard, Hattie Ramsey, and Clifford Conard.

Those who knew Bob will remember his passions outside of work—especially his love of woodworking. His gifted hands created countless pieces that now grace homes across the United States and in five foreign countries, each piece a testament to his skill, creativity, and the love with which they were crafted. Bob’s joy came also from the simple pleasures of time spent with family and friends. He cherished days at the lake with his family and, later, winter months at Lake Okeechobee, Florida, where he built many lasting friendships.

A longtime member of Starnes Cove Baptist Church, Bob’s faith guided his life and was evident in his kindness, humility, and the generosity he extended to others. His church family played an important role in his journey, providing fellowship and support that uplifted him through his final days.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff of Pisgah Manor Nursing Home, especially Donna, Amber, Rita, and Wendy, for their compassionate support to both Bob and his family. Appreciation is also expressed to the Mission Hospital ICU team, especially No-No, for their loving care, as well as his beloved church family at Starnes Cove Baptist Church.

Friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects at a visitation on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Starnes Cove Baptist Church, located at 149 Starnes Cove Road, Asheville, NC 28806. A memorial service in Bob’s honor will be held at the same location on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m with Pastor William Moore and Rev. Charlie Sams officiating.

Bobby “Bob” Joe Conard will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him. His memory and legacy will endure in the hearts of his family, friends, and community for generations to come.
