Brenda Joy Cothran Penland, 76, passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Howard Heywood Cothran and Eleanor Eloise Davis Cothran. Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Larry W. Penland of the home, 3 children, a sister, 4 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, November 1, 2016 in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
