Brenda Tweed Metz, age 78, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, in her beloved hometown of Asheville, North Carolina. Born on June 22, 1947, Brenda was the cherished daughter of Luther Nay Tweed and Bertha Lanelle Warren Tweed. She grew up in Asheville and graduated from Clyde A. Erwin High School, class of 1965.
Brenda dedicated many years of her life working for Sears in the Apparel Department until her retirement, where she was known for her friendly and compassionate demeanor. Her warmth extended beyond her career; she was a longtime member of Westwood Baptist Church and occasionally attended Bent Creek Baptist Church, where she formed many lasting friendships.
Described as naive, friendly, and caring, Brenda was a loving person who never held a grudge. Her profound love for family was evident in the way she deeply cherished her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In her later years at Stonecreek Health and Rehab, she found immense purpose in serving, helping, and caring for other residents. Her enthusiasm for life was further demonstrated through her spirited discussions with her brothers about her favored team, Duke, especially when they played against their favored team, Carolina.
Brenda is survived by her children: Robert Blackwell, Jr. and wife Sherri, and Annette Gregory; her step-daughter, Paula Metz Pruett and husband Daniel; her sister-in-law, Liz Tweed; her grandchildren: Nicole Martinez (Serigo), Toby Blackwell, and Justin Gregory; and her great-grandchildren: Mía, Paisley, Mateo, Brantley, Rylan, and Mael. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Lynn Metz, who passed away on October 6, 2000; and her siblings: Pamela Brady, Wanda Blackwell, Carroll Tweed, and Alan Tweed.
A memorial service in honor of Brenda will take place on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Anders Rice & Roper Funeral Home in Asheville, North Carolina, with Rev. Clark Henderson officiating. Her family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
Her family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitute to the many doctors, nurses, and staff, especially Dr. Kannan, of the 7th floor pulmonary unit of Mission Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion shown to Brenda and her family over the past few weeks.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org
