Dewey "Britt" Reed, born March 26, 1962, in Asheville, went home to be with The Lord on Thursday, July 16, 2026, in Candler. Britt was the beloved son of the late Jack Reed and Betty Jean Gillen Reed, and he lived a life marked by faith, integrity, and deep devotion to those he loved.
A proud son of Asheville, Britt embodied the values of honesty and service from an early age. He carried these values into his adult life, winning the admiration and respect of all who knew him. Those closest to him knew Britt as a man of his word—someone whose steadfast principles and compassionate heart guided every decision he made. His honesty was matched only by the kindness and warmth he extended to friends and family alike.
Britt’s faith was the cornerstone of his character. He loved and served The Lord as a child of God and was recognized as a man of profound belief. Through his faith and example, he touched countless lives and offered steady guidance, comfort, and encouragement to those who needed it.
A dedicated patriot, Britt proudly served his country in the United States Army. This service, carried out with humility and honor, was a source of great pride for Britt and his family. The discipline and sense of duty he gained during his military years remained evident throughout his life.
Britt’s legacy lives on in the hearts of his loving family and friends. He is survived by his son, David Reed; siblings, Debbie Lee, Eddie Reed, and Stacy Odom and her husband Samuel Wallace; and a granddaughter. His memory will continue to be celebrated by his nephews, Michael Lee and Tyler Reed, his niece, Courtney Reed, and his great-nephew, Carter Reed.
Britt was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jack Reed and Betty Jean Gillen Reed; as well as his brother-in-law, Tony Lee. Though they are no longer here, their memories remain intertwined with Britt’s legacy of love and faith.
