Dorothy Hickey Parker

Dorothy Hickey Parker, 86, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Madison Health Care. A native and lifelong resident of WNC, she was a daughter of the late Bill and Ursley Tweed Sams. She was also preceded in death by her 1st husband, James Willard Hickey, Sr.; 2nd husband, Gerald Parker; sister, Kathleen Radford; and brother, Climmitt Sams. Mrs. Parker was a member of Pine Burr Park Baptist Church and retired from AB Emblem. Surviving are her children: Brenda McElrath and husband David, and Jimmy Hickey, Jr. and wife Vickie both of Weaverville; grandchildren: Jason Ponder and wife Angela, Alex McElrath and wife Mandy, Mandy Cogdill and husband Brent, and Jodie Metcalf and husband Jeremy; great-grandchildren: Makena, Mylee, Lexi, Avery, Nathan, Aiden, Cameron, and Morgan; sisters: Gwen Jackson and husband Stuart of VA, Sue Keith of SC, and Reva Raynor of VA; brothers: Orville Sams and wife Doris, Johnny Sams and wife Mary, Bobby Sams and wife Diane, Jimmy Sams, and Steve Sams and wife Karen, all of VA; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. Saturday, April 8, 2017 in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Bro. Junior Hollifield officiating. Burial will follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 7 till 9 PM on Friday at the funeral home.
