Leicester Edmond Luther Welchance, 84, of 10 Brookshire Road, passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at The Laurels of Summit Ridge after an extended illness. A native of Murfreesboro, TN, he had resided in Buncombe County for the past 5 years. He was a retired form operator in the steel industry. Mr. Welchance had served in the US Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II. He was the son of the late John Luther and Katie Kathryn Allin Welchance. Surviving are his two daughters: Cindy Cole and husband Troy of Leicester, and Barbara Lamb and husband Larry of Mansfield, OH; his son, Ron Baker and wife Mary of Weaverville; his sister, Dorothy Reeves of Murfreesboro; 12 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. No local services are planned. Funeral services will be announced later this week by Jennings-Ayers Funeral Home of Murfreesboro. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is assisting the Welchance family with local arrangements.
