Edna Jarrett

Asheville - Edna Catherine Messmer Jarrett, 93, of 274 Sulpher Springs Road died Monday September 22, 2008 at her residence. A native of St. Louis, MO, she had lived in Buncombe County since 1920. She was a 1933 graduate of Lee Edwards High School and had retired from the National Climatic Center. She was a member of Westwood Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Charles and Catherine Ledford Messmer and the wife of the late Rex Bernard Jarrett. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Jarrett Woodard. Surviving are her son, Richard Carlton Jarrett of Mariposa, CA; sister, Marion Elizabeth Matthews of Virginia Beach, VA; a grandson who she raised, Monty Woodard of Los Angeles, CA, 7 other grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 1 hour before services at the funeral home.
