Ernest Ervin Poteat

Asheville - Ernest Ervin Poteat, 79, of 334 Hazel Mill Road, died Friday March 6, 2009 at his home after a period of declining health. A native of Burke County, he had lived in Buncombe County most of his life. He was a son of the late Charles and Jenny Lee Stroupe Poteat. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. Surviving are his wife, Wanda Shelton Poteat of the home; sons, Jerry Poteat of Drexel, Ernest Poteat, Jr. of Leicester and Travis Poteat of Snellville, GA; daughter, Shenna Reynolds of Asheville; sister, Jewel Poteat of Morganton; brother, David Poteat of Morganton and 8 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Ricky Townsend officiating. Burial will be in the Holcombe Branch Cemetery with military rites provided by Mars Hill Memorial Post #5483. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:30 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
