Freda Sue Settles Baker

Freda Sue Settles Baker, 85, of Weaverville, passed away on September 26, 2026, at her home in Weaverville while surrounded by her family.

Born on December 28, 1940, in Blackey, Kentucky, Freda lived a life marked by devotion to her family, pride in her work, and joy in the simple beauties that meant so much to her. She was a woman who loved deeply and gave generously of herself to those around her.

Freda dedicated 37 years of her life to the Grove Park Inn, where she built a distinguished career and became the Director of Catering and Convention Services. Her years of service reflected her commitment, professionalism, and the care she brought to everything she did. She remained proud of that work until her retirement in 2012.

Those who knew Freda will remember the warmth of her spirit and the things that brought her happiness. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she especially loved the season’s joy and celebration. She loved her family above all, and she also found delight in flowers, especially red roses, whose beauty suited her gracious nature.

Freda was preceded in death by her parents, Luther Settles and Myrtle Eisele; and her husband, Gilbert Baker, who passed away on November 1, 1969.

She is survived by her loving family, who were a constant source of pride and love throughout her life. She leaves behind her daughters, Pam Baker and Laura Baker and husband Don Kiser; her son, Doug Baker; her granddaughter, Nikki Douglas and husband Rory; and her great-grandchildren, Skylar Douglas and Sean Douglas. Their lives stand as part of the lasting legacy of love and family that meant so much to her.

A private graveside service to celebrate Freda's life will be held at Green Hills Cemetery.
