Gladys Penley

Asheville – Gladys Penley, 79, of 72 West Cedar Lane, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 6, 2021. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was a devoted mother and sister, and daughter of the late John Henry and May Grace Rice Penley. Surviving are her daughter, Mary Kelly Stephenson of the home; sister, Martha Ann Gann and brothers, Arby Lee Penley and Roby Lee Penley; nieces and nephews, Teresa Maynard, Katherine Goforth, Penny Robertson, Carrie Pressley, Marian Penley, Martha Jackson, Brenda Rhodes, Mary Cogdill, Wanda Workman and James Gann; great nephews, Brannon, Brandon, Chris and Jimmy Lee Gann, and great-great nieces, Alexis Gann and Cindy Mendes. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Thursday, August 12, 2021 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with Rev. Ramona Nix and Rev. Keith Nix officiating. Burial will follow in Tweeds Chapel, Cane Creek Road, Fairview. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
