Glen McElreath, born on March 21, 1941, in Leicester, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 17, 2026, in Asheville. A devoted family man, Glen’s life was characterized by compassion, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to his loved ones.
Glen proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, reflecting his dedication and sense of duty.
He is survived by his beloved children: Alisa Jaramillo and her husband Benjamin, Teresa Surrett, Darren McElreath and his wife Tracie, and Glen McElreath and his wife Margaret. Glen took great joy in his role as a grandfather to Joshua, Jeremy, Justin, Joey, Jina, Glen, Aireal, and Annika, along with five cherished great-grandchildren: Summer, Hunter, Gracyn, Rafe, and Alayna, who brought him much happiness. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Ball, and a host of nieces and nephews, all of whom will remember him fondly.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents, Alec McElreath and Julia Radcliff McElreath; as well as his granddaughter, Jody Surrett. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Barbara Frisbee and Ruby Padgett, who were integral parts of his life.
A time of gathering and celebration of Glen's life will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, in the Chapel of Anders Rice & Roper Funeral Home from 7 PM until 9 PM, providing an opportunity for family and friends to gather and celebrate his rich life. Military Funeral Honors will be rendered by the U.S. Navy at 7 PM.
As we remember Glen McElreath, we honor the love he shared, the wisdom he imparted, and the countless lives he touched throughout his journey. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
