Hazel L. Bates

Fairview - Hazel Leona Lindsey Bates, 86, died Friday July 6, 2007 at Fleshers Fairview Health Care Center. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she retired from Memorial Mission Hospital as a CNA and was a member of Midway Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late William and Bessie Stuart Lindsey and the wife of the late Rufus H. Bates, Jr. She was also preceded in death by a son, Boyce Bates. Surviving are her daughters, Mary Lou Whitaker of Fairview and Linda Barnes and husband Ben of Candler; sister, Myrtle Simpson of Asheville; brother, Jim Lindsey of Asheville; 5 grandchildren, Jackie Goldsmith of Candler, William and Tim Whitaker both of Fairview and Teresa Boone and Lisa Honeycutt both of Burnsville; 9 great grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Revs. Todd Cole and Alf Miller officiating. Burial will be in Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
