Henry Ransom Helms

Asheville - Henry Ransom Helms, 76, of 15 Lamb Avenue died Tuesday March 25, 2008 at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native of Buncombe County, he had resided in South Carolina for 14 years prior to moving back to Buncombe County. He was a member and Deacon at Fellowship Baptist Church. He was a son of the late John Thomas and Ollie Crawford Helms, and was also preceded in death by his sisters: Anna Maye Helms and Mary Davis; brothers: Thomas Helms and Robert Helms; and half-brother, James Allen Helms. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Geraldine Wilde Helms of the home; daughters, Pat Helms of Asheville and Charlotte Corn and husband Dale of Weaverville; sons, Barry Helms of the home and J.L Helms and wife Linda of Charleston, SC; half sisters, Jeanette Echos and Ollie Robinson, both of Spartanburg; and two half-brothers: Horace Helms, Jr. of Greensboro and Frank Helms of Spartanburg; 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday at Fellowship Baptist Church, with the Rev. Zane Edmonds and Rev. Tommy Helms officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM Friday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
