Herbert Gregory, Sr.

Herbert Herman Gregory Sr., age 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, in Asheville. Born on April 5, 1939, in Madison County, Herbert lived a life marked by hard work, dedication, faith, and love for his family and community.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wanda June Gregory; his parents, Dean and Ardele Gregory; and other loved ones who welcomed him home.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Herbert Gregory Jr.; grandchildren: Jessie Gregory (Adam Begley), and Nathan Line; great-granddaughter, Addison Begley; cousins: Arthur Green, Roy Green, Brenda Green, Harole Green, and Jason Palmer; and sister-in-law, Reba Smith.

Herbert proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he dedicated more than 50 years of his life to Ingles Markets, where he worked his way up to store manager. Herbert truly loved the grocery business and deeply valued the people he worked alongside and the customers he served throughout the years.

A faithful member of Sunrise Baptist Church, Herbert loved his church family and remained devoted to his faith throughout his life.

Herbert will be remembered as a hardworking and loving father, grandfather, and friend whose kindness, dedication, and steady presence touched many lives.
