Swannanoa Thelma Irene Sams, 73, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at the Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Center. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Miss Sams was the daughter of the late Josiah and Sadie Elizabeth Ellison Sams. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Georgia Lunsford and Louise Sams. Surviving are her sisters: Jo Ann Whitson, Betty Muse, Sadie Arbeta Moss, and Pauline Marie Sams; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday at Green Hills Cemetery, with Chaplain Jean Randolph officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM 12:45 PM Friday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
