James Ronald "Ron" Burkett, Sr.

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of James Ronald Burkett, Sr., known to many as Ron and lovingly known within our family as Papa. Born on August 13, 1942, in Orlando, Florida, Ron departed this life on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, in Asheville, North Carolina.

Ron was more than a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was Papa—the steady presence, the quiet encourager, and the example so many looked up to. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 60 years, Patricia "Patty" Burkett, and their three sons: James "Ronnie" Burkett, Jr. and wife Cynthia, Jeffrey "Jeff" Ray Burkett and wife Sherry, and Jason Randall Burkett and wife Audra. Ron was proud to be a grandfather to Joshua Ray Burkett and wife Amy, Brooke Burkett Kerns and husband Morgan, Justin Riley Burkett, Jonathen Taylor Burkett and wife Madison, Gavin Burkett, and Cierra Burkett. He was also a joyful great-grandfather to Ivy Burkett, Lily Burkett, Rory Kerns, Brooks Burkett, Copper Kerns, and soon-to-arrive Hudson James Burkett, expected this July. Additionally, he is survived by his brothers, Roy Burkett and Rusty Burkett, along with several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Beyond our family, Ron was a role model to many through his work, his church, and his unwavering faith. He lived a life rooted in integrity, humility, and service, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he encountered. As we reflect on his life, we are filled with gratitude for his legacy and the love he poured into our family and community.

While we will miss Papa deeply here on earth, we have complete peace knowing where Ron is today and take comfort in the promise that we will see him again. Thank you for keeping our family in your thoughts and prayers during this time.

A service to celebrate Ron's life will be held at 10:00am at Seminole Community Church, 5070 Orange Blvd, Sanford, FL 32771, on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
