James "Jim" Houston Glazener

James “Jim” Houston Glazener, of Candler, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on June 16, 1935, in Transylvania County.

Jim was the beloved son of the late Claude Edward Glazener and Ora Elsie Moore Glazener, whose values and love shaped his early years. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife of over 50 years, June Pat Glazener, whose memory he held dear throughout his life.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Shari Glazener; his son, James Edward Glazener; his step-son, Christopher Betz; and his step-daughter, Carla Allen and her husband Jim. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Emma, Eli, Addie, Jay, and Glen, as well as his great-grandson, Otto. Each of them carries forward his warmth, humor, and deep commitment to family.

Jim’s life was characterized by meaningful work and service. He dedicated many years as an executive at the Ecusta Paper Corporation in Brevard, playing a pivotal role in its community until the plant’s closing. Afterwards, his compassionate spirit found purpose at Trend, where he worked serving adults with disabilities—work that brought fulfillment and lasting impact. Eventually, Jim enjoyed a long and well-deserved retirement, savoring the simple pleasures of life.

A proud veteran, Jim served honorably in the US Army, exemplifying steadfastness and courage. His interests and passions were as vibrant as his character. In his early years, he delighted audiences as a clarinet player in a jazz band, sharing his love for music with friends and fellow musicians. He also found thrill and freedom riding motorcycles—embracing adventure wherever he could find it. The beach held a special place in Jim’s heart, and he cherished time spent at his property on Fripp Island, South Carolina. It was here he felt most at peace, surrounded by natural beauty and the quiet joys of family and friends.

Those who knew Jim remember a man who brought laughter to every gathering, who offered kindness freely, and who lived his life with unwavering authenticity. His enduring love for his family, his remarkable work ethic, and his passion for life’s adventures will inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.

A private interment service will be held at a later date at the Mt. Moriah Calvert Baptist Church Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to his wife in the Glazener plot.

James “Jim” Houston Glazener will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his devoted family and friends. His legacy of generosity, strength, and love will remain in the hearts of all who carry his memory forward.
