Jerry Wayne Boone, a devoted family man, proud Vietnam Veteran, and longtime employee of Norfolk Southern Railroad, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2026, while surrounded by his family at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, North Carolina. Born on July 7, 1947, in McDowell County, Jerry lived a full and vibrant life marked by dedication, and service.

Jerry proudly served his country as a United States Marine Corps Sergeant during the Vietnam War. His commitment to duty and discipline shaped much of his character and is remembered with great respect by all who knew him. After his honorable military service, he pursued further education and earned an associate degree in machining from AB Tech. This educational achievement paved the way for a fulfilling career with Norfolk Southern Railroad, where Jerry worked diligently for many years until his retirement.

A man who loved to stay busy, Jerry’s spirited nature was evident in every part of his life. In his younger years, he found joy in singing with the Dotson Trio, showcasing a talent and passion for southern gospel music that enriched his community and brought happiness to those around him. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he attended Gashes Creek Baptist Church.

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn Dotson Boone, to whom he was married on July 27, 1968. Together, they shared a lifetime of memories and love. Their family is a testament to Jerry's enduring legacy: their son, Myron Boone, and his wife, Tara; grandchildren: Tyler Boone and his wife Shelby, Hunter Boone and his wife Tori, and Ashlynn Boone; as well as great-grandchildren: Gannon, Keenan, Ella, Vivian, Remington, Timber, Kaitie, and an eagerly awaited new addition, Raelynn. Jerry also leaves behind his brother, Harold Dean Boone, and his wife Lila, along with his sister, Vaughtie Mae Allison, and her husband Bobby. His family circle extends to many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives who cherished his presence.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan Bealer Boone and Arlie Marteen Sparks Boone; brothers, Phillip Boone and Clifford Boone; and great-grandson, Easton. Their memories remain forever in the hearts of those who mourn his loss.
