Jim Crowder

Asheville - James Charles Jim Crowder, Sr., 69, of Asheville, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014 at the Charles George VA Medical Center. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Mr. Crowder worked as an Industrial Engineer, repairing sewing machine for the textile industry. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, and the former President of the Driven By the Spirit Motorcycle Ministry. He was also a US Navy veteran. Mr. Crowder was the son of the late Gus Franklin and Ruth Crowder Filkins. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Crystal Crowder Banks. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Smith Crowder; son, Jimmy Crowder and fianc Lisa Griffin; grandchildren: Jessica Banks Sherman and husband Scotty, Justin Banks, Colby Crowder and girlfriend Adrianna Santucci, Chris Crowder, and Cody Faulkner; and great-grandson, Canaan Sherman. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Keith Watkins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 2:15 PM Sunday at the church. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is assisting the Crowder family.
