Joan "Dodie" Collins

Joan Dodie Collins, 70, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. She was a daughter of the late Patrocinio Valdez and Nellie Young Valdez. She was also preceded in death by her husband Charles Scott Collins, and son Jeff Collins. As a child of a military family she resided on several Army bases as a child, and proudly claimed the title of Army Brat. Dodie was a member of Starnes Cove Baptist Church, and worked for the Buncombe County Court House as a Judicial Assistant. She also worked in Heath Shulers office and was a proponent of the Womens Democratic Association of Buncombe County. She also was a member and past president of the NC State Employees Credit Union SEANC Association. Surviving are her children: Charles Scott Collins, Jr. and wife Julia Collins of Candler, and Mary Beth Collins and wife Jennifer Ann Collins of Lakeland, OH; grandchildren: Alex, Jacob, Robert, Tony, and John; sisters: Debbie Anaya, and Margot Waltz; brothers: Mike Valdez, and Patrocinio Valdez, Jr; and several nieces and nephews, including Mark Watts. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, July 22, 2017, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charlie Sams officiating.
