Joseph "Joe" Ronnie Rhew, born on January 18, 1942, in Asheville, North Carolina, went home to be with The Lord peacefully on Thursday, December 4, 2025. Joe led a courageous life marked by dedication, service, and community involvement, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew him.
For over 19 years, Joe worked as an electrician at the Asheville Regional Airport until his well-deserved retirement. His commitment to his craft was evident, and he was known for his expertise and professionalism in the field.
Joe's personality shone brightly in various aspects of his life. He was a Past Master of the Biltmore Masonic Lodge #446 AF& AM, showcasing his leadership and dedication to the Masonic community. Additionally, he was a longtime member of the Land of the Sky Shrine Club, where he contributed to various charitable efforts and supported those in need. Joe was an avid bowler, having played with the same team for over 40 years, demonstrating his love for the sport and fostering friendships that would last a lifetime.
Joe served proudly in the United States Army during the Berlin Crisis, fulfilling his role as a tank commander in the 3rd Cavalry Regiment. For his exemplary service, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, a testament to his commitment and dedication to his country. He was most proud of his family and of serving his country through the US Army.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Kathleen "Kay" Hudson Rhew, and their children: Joseph Ronnie Rhew, Jr., and Joe Nagle of Asheville; Lynndayle Rhew Jones and husband Brad of Fairview; and Kevin "Bo" Rhew of Hendersonville. He loved and cherished his granddaughter, Rachel Watson. Joe is also survived by his siblings: David Allen Rhew, Robin Rice, and Joette Lewis and husband Mike. Joe will be deeply missed by several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends whose lives he touched with genuine kindness and warmth.
A memorial service to celebrate Joe's life is scheduled for Sunday, December 14, 2025, at 2:00 PM, in the Chapel of Anders Rice & Roper Funeral Home, located at 1428 Patton Avenue, Asheville, NC 28806. His son-in-law, Brad Jones will officiate his service and Military Funeral Honors will be provided by the NC National Guard Honor Guard and Masonic Funeral Honors will be provided by the Biltmore Masonic Lodge. His family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service.

Joe's legacy of love, service, and humor will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
