Juanita Mae Sprouse Prestwood, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully and went home to be with The Lord at her home in Asheville on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, surrounded by her cherished family. Born on March 14, 1932, in Asheville, Juanita lived a long and meaningful life defined by love, devotion, and her signature strong will.
Throughout her many years, Juanita exemplified commitment and warmth. She was a long-time and devoted member of Dix Creek United Methodist Church until the church’s closure, embodying the values of faith and community service that were important to her and her family.
Juanita had a vibrant and engaging personality, reflected in everything she did. An avid bowler, she spent countless joyful hours participating in several bowling leagues, forming friendships and memories along the way. Always one for connection, Juanita was known in her younger years for her love of CB radio, where she charmed others as “Crazy Cat.” Her enjoyment for life shone equally in simple pleasures—whether talking with friends, spending time at the lake, or searching for treasures at local flea markets.
Family was at the heart of Juanita's world. She loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren deeply, and her strength, guidance, and affection were steadfast gifts to each generation. Juanita’s legacy carries forward through her surviving daughter, Shirley Sprouse Parton; her son, Terry Lee Sprouse; and her adored grandchildren: Brian Michael Parton and his wife Christy, Angelita Elizabeth Miller and her husband Daniel, Amanda Gabrielle Hughes and her husband Matthew, Summer Lynn Sprouse, Kathleen Grace Sprouse, and Leigh Ann Jones and her husband DJ. Her great-grandchildren: Kirkland, Chloe, Kellie, Connor, Lincoln, Kali, Braxton, and Donny; and great-great-grandchildren: Kourtney and Lily were also central to her joy and pride. Additionally, she is remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews who were an important part of her extended family.
Juanita is preceded in death by two husbands, William Fred Sprouse, Jr., and Revis Prestwood; her parents, Guy Roberts and Alma Embler Roberts; her son-in-law, Glenn Dean Parton; her siblings: Doris, Claude, Melvin, Helen, Ralph, Herman, Ethel, Inez, and Elvert, who welcomed her into everlasting peace.
The family will gather on Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 2 until 2:45 PM and receive friends in the Chapel of Anders Rice & Roper Funeral Home, located at 1428 Patton Ave, Asheville, NC 28806. A funeral service to honor and remember Juanita will follow at 3 PM on Sunday at the funeral home. She will then be laid to rest at Dix Creek Chapel Cemetery, 31 Dix Creek Chapel Road, Asheville, NC 28806.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Georgetown Baptist Church, 464 Dix Creek Rd Number 1 Ste 1, Leicester, NC 28748.
