Katharine Maria "Marie" Roland

Asheville - Katharine Marie Roland, 81, of Raleigh Road died Friday December 24, 2004 at Emerald Ridge Health Care Center. A native of Yancey County, she had resided in Buncombe County since 1940. She retired in 1972 as a meteorological technician from the Air Weather Service. She was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church where she was a member of the Homemakers Sunday School Class. Ms. Roland was also a member of the Leicester Garden Club. She was a former member of the Rhododendron Club and the American Business Womens Association. She was a 1940 graduate of Bald Creek High School. Ms. Roland was a daughter of the late Hobart McKinley and Nora Anglin Roland. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Floy Belle Wright and a brother, Warren Roland. Surviving are her sisters, Virginia McCorkle of Charlotte, June Williams and Shirley Brown both of Leicester; brother, J.M. Roland of Whiteville, NC and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. James Ian Walker officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
