Lassie Rhew

Asheville Lassie Mae Church Rhew, 84, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2018. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Rhew had resided in Buncombe County for most of her life. She was a florist by trade, and will be fondly remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and the glue that held the family together. Mrs. Rhew was the daughter of the late Jessie Howard Church and Hattie Mae Prayter Church. She was also preceded in death by a son, William Thomas Rhew, III; grandson, John Timothy Reynolds, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Katie Rhew; son-in-law, William Sullivan; and six siblings. Surviving are her husband, William Thomas Rhew, Jr., whom she married January 4, 1956; children: Sheila Sullivan, Timothy Rhew and wife Melinda, and Jonathon Rhew and wife Angie; grandchildren: Chad, Stephanie, Staci, Matthew, and Garrett; three great-grandchildren; and sister, Marie Stanley. Private memorial graveside services will be held at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
