Linda Cherryl Patton, a cherished member of the Asheville community, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 4, 2026, in her hometown of Asheville, North Carolina. Born on August 15, 1962, Linda’s life was marked by warmth, kindness, and a boundless love for those around her.
Throughout her career, Linda dedicated herself to meaningful work through Handi-Skills and Goodwill, contributing to many workplaces over the years. Among these was Wendy’s on Merrimon Avenue, where she not only worked diligently but also formed numerous lasting friendships. Her sociable nature and big heart made her beloved by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Linda was known throughout Asheville for her cheerful spirit and the genuine joy she found in life. She had a remarkable ability to connect with people and, true to her nature, she never met a stranger.
Linda's spirit was deeply tied to her faith and community. She grew up attending Sunrise Baptist Church and most recently worshipped at Biltmore Church alongside her sister, Judy Bowlin. Above all, her favorite place of worship was Freedom Baptist Church where she built many special bonds that enriched her life. Linda also found great joy in participating in church beach trips, which were occasions she treasured dearly. Linda also shared a very special bond with her loving brother and caregiver, Johnny, who Linda called her "Number 1".
A woman of many interests, Linda took pride in organizing the monthly "Girls Night Out," which brought friends together in friendship and laughter. Her greatest joy, however, was orchestrating and attending the annual "Girls Beach Trip," a special event that held a very dear place in her heart each year.
Linda is survived by her loving sister, Judy Bowlin and her husband Tommy; her loving brother and caregiver, Johnny Patton; her niece, Logan; nephews, Tyler and Corey; and her great-niece, Alice, who held a very special place in Linda’s life. She also leaves behind many friends who will remember her kindness and warm presence. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, John Robert Patton and Nancy Irene Higgins Patton.
Family, friends, and all who knew Linda are invited to pay their respects during the visitation to be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Freedom Baptist Church, 50 Rice Road in Asheville. The funeral service will follow on the same day at 2:00 p.m. at the same location with Rev. Harold Laflin officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
