Lionel Cheney

Asheville - Lionel Cheney ,81, of 305 Piney Mountain Drive died Tuesday October 7, 2003 at the Hospice Solace Center. A native of Bridgeport, Conn. he had lived in Asheville for the past 15 years. He was a son of the late Maurice Lionel and Ethel Grisenwaite Cheney and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII. Surviving are his wife, Sarah Elizabeth Thomes Cheney of the home; daughters, Carrie Burton of Charleston, N.H. and Cathy Finklea of Mt. Angel Or.; sons, Matthew Cheney of Colorado Springs, Col. and Mark Cheney of Stratford, Conn.; sisters, Martha Lincoln of N.H. and Pamela Potter of Vt., brother, Maurice A. Cheney of Pa. and grandchildren, Carrie and Jonathan Finklea. Memorial services will be held at 3:30 P.M. Friday at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain with the Rev. Steve Hines officiating.
