Margaret L. Vance, born on August 31, 1935, in Madison County, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 8, 2026, in Flat Rock. A devoted seamstress and a cornerstone of her community, she was a beloved figure to many who had the privilege of knowing her.
Margaret's life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family and her passion for music. She fondly remembered singing and playing the piano with her mother, aunt Lula Tweed, and uncle Otis Thomas as part of the "Travlers For Jesus Trio." This cherished group graced the airwaves of Marshall every Sunday, bringing joy to countless listeners with their harmonious performances.
In addition to her musical pursuits, Margaret had a nurturing spirit that extended into her love for gardening. She took great joy in cultivating flowers and vegetables alongside her husband, Kenneth Herbert Vance, who preceded her in death on December 18, 2014. Together, they shared a profound love for animals, often rescuing pets from local shelters and taking the time to feed the wildlife that visited their yard. Her kindhearted nature was evident to everyone who crossed her path.
Margaret’s love for bowling was another notable aspect of her personality; she enjoyed the sport and was quite skilled at it, often engaging friends and family in friendly competition. A longtime member of Trinity Baptist Church, Margaret found strength and support within her faith community, further enriching her life and the lives of those around her.
Her journey through life also included cherished family ties. She is survived by her step-son, Daniel Jay Vance, and his wife Cindy; step-daughter, Tami Rae Parcell, and her husband Richard; grandsons, Jason Parcell and Aaron Parcell; half-brother, Mark Griffee; and sisters-in-law, Joan Lisenbee, Kathy Griffee, and Easter Griffee. Additionally, Margaret leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family who will continue to honor her memory.
In addition, Margaret was preceded in death by her father, Robert Lisenbee and mother, Nina Lisenbee Griffee; stepfather, Lawrence G Griffee; brothers: William "Bill" Lisenbee, James "David" Lisenbee, Joseph "Joe" Lisenbee, and Lawrence "Larry" Griffee; and sisters-in-law, Betty G Lisenbee, and Delores R Lisenbee.
Margaret L. Vance's life was a tapestry woven with love, faith, and service. A visitation will be held in her honor on Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM at Anders Rice & Roper Funeral Home, located at 1428 Patton Avenue, Asheville, NC. Pastor Allen Rash will officiate and burial will follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. She touched the lives of so many and will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and community.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Trinity Baptist Church, 216 Shelburne Rd, Asheville, NC 28806.
