Matt Aric Kelly

Matt Aric Kelly, beloved husband and father, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 15, 2026, in Asheville, North Carolina. Born on October 26, 1976, in Bellevue, Michigan, Matt was a man of extraordinary character and warmth, deeply cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him. Matt and his wife Kasi resided in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina for the past 10 years.

As the owner and operator of Black Bear Roofing, Matt dedicated himself not just to his business, but also to the community of Western North Carolina. His work ethics were matched only by his kindness; he was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Matt found joy in simple pleasures, especially at Axeville Axe Throwing Club, where he spent many enjoyable hours. However, it was the time he shared with his family that he treasured most intensely.

He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Kasi Luxton Kelly; their children, Aric Kelly and Leah Kelly; and his father, Richard and Nessie Kelly, and his mother, Lois Finley Hillaker. The love of family extended to his mother-in-law, Tina Luxton, and father-in-law, Jimmy Luxton. Matt shared a close bond with his siblings: Rocky Kelly, Luke Kelly, Jake Kelly, and Kathy Kelly; and brother-in-law, James Luxton. He will also be missed by his nephews, Witten Kelly, Austin Kelly, Justin Kelly, Reese Kelly, C.J. Kelly, Josh Kelly, Curis Luxton, and Aaron Luxton. In addition, Matt is preceded in death by his niece, Keisha Kelly.

Matt's passing leaves an irreplaceable void in the lives of all who knew him. He was a constant source of kindness, generosity, and support, and his spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of his family and friends. The memory of his laughter, compassion, and unwavering devotion will endure, reminding us all of the deep impact he had in our lives. 

A service to celebrate Matt's life will be held at a later date in Florida.
