Mike Kanipe

Asheville – Michael “Mike” Steven Kanipe, 67, of 48 Oregon Avenue, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2020 at his residence. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a 1972 graduate of Asheville High School and was employed for over 20 years with Square D. Mike loved animals and had a great sense of humor. He was the son of the late Daniel Alexander Kanipe and Betty Lou Mashburn Kanipe. Surviving are his companion, Gwen Rhymer of the home; daughter, Deana Marie Shelton and husband Dillon of Candler; son, Michael Adam Kanipe and wife Ashley Louise of Arden; grandchildren, Grace Diane Kanipe and Lucas Adam Roy Kanipe; uncle, Albert Kanipe and wife Barbara and aunts, Nora Lee Jones and Peggy Jackson all of Asheville and numerous cousins and extended family. No services are planned at this time. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is assisting the family.
