Mildred D. Pierce

Candler – Mildred D. Pierce passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, following a period of brief illness.

A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Romas Hicks Duncan and Anna Belle D. Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Gay Pierce Cody; sister, Helen Gentry; and brothers: Cecil Duncan, Romas Hicks Duncan, Jr., Grady Lee Duncan, Robert Duncan, and William Duncan.

Mrs. Pierce retired from American Enka following more than 30 years of service. She was a devoted mother and grandmother with a lifelong love for gardening and roses.

Surviving are her daughters: Carolyn Sandlin of Westminster, SC, Marilyn Edwards of Quinton, VA, and Peggy Calloway of Hendersonville; brother, Burnice Duncan of Asheville; 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Rev. Roger Crawford officiating.
