Nancy “Nana” Carolyn Hartley Williams, 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 19, 2022, at the Woodland Ridge Assisted Living Center.
A native of West Asheville, she was born on October 10, 1936. She is preceded in death by her father, John Anderson Hartley IV; Mother, Elva Mae Case Hartley; husband, Charles “Charlie” Rowan Williams, who was retired from the Asheville Fire Department; sister, Gwendolyn Joan "JoAnn" Hartley Huggins; and brothers: John Anderson Hartley V, and William “Bill” Ray Hartley.
Nancy graduated from Lee Edwards High School in 1955 and retired from the N.C. Department of Corrections as a Court Intake Officer. She was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church, a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, where she did work for the burn center, and a member of The Writer’s Workshop. She served on various committees in Asheville to include: The Earth Day Committee, March of Dimes, and the Visitor Center in Asheville.
Surviving are her daughter, Jennifer Williams Jacobs and husband Steve of Marietta, GA; son, Jason Lewis Williams of Asheville; grandchildren: Kristen Alaina Stoner and husband Adam, and Evan Phillip Jacobs; great-grandsons: Korben Stoner, and Vash Stoner; special cousins: Barbara Kanipe, and Brenda Pace; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
A Celebration of Nancy’s life will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at Green Hills Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 till 2 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nancy’s memory to: Grace Baptist Church, The Writer’s Workshop, Asheville Humane Society, or The Montford Park Players.
