Nora Benson passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10, 2026, in Asheville, the city where she was born on March 31, 1936. She was 90 years old.
Nora’s life was defined by her unwavering kindness, immense generosity and her deep love for her family. Throughout her years, those who knew Nora carried with them fond memories of her warm presence and selfless spirit. Her journey began in Asheville, surrounded by the love of her parents, Obie Alexander Willingham and Ethel Ward Willingham, both of whom preceded her in death.
Nora devoted much of her working life to customer service and retired from K-Mart. Whether she was helping a colleague or brightening the day of a customer, Nora approached her work with dedication and real heart, cultivating bonds that lasted far beyond her career.
At home, Nora was known for her passion for growing flowers—her green thumb was apparent to anyone who visited her garden, where vibrant colors and delicate blooms spoke to her attentive care and genuine joy in nurturing life. She also enjoyed collecting, especially jewelry and crafts, finding delight in treasures both small and sentimental.
Family was always at the center of Nora’s world. She is survived by her devoted husband, Jack Benson, whose steadfast companionship was a source of strength and happiness throughout their 62 years of marriage. Nora’s caring nature also extended outward, enveloping her sister, Louise Roseborough and her husband Robert. She is also survived by her beloved niece, Lisa Anderson and husband Thomas; nephew, Kevin Roseborough and wife Paula; great-nephews: Joshuah Burrell, Jordaan Burrell and wife Cheyenne, Jacob Burrell and Isaac Burrell; great neice, Samantha Henderson and husband Brandon; great-great nieces: Isla Eloise Burrell who was her pride and joy, and Braylee Henderson; and great-great nephews: Branch Henderson and Boone Henderson each of whom carries forward her love and the example she set for all.
Nora was preceded in death not only by her parents, but also by her siblings—seven brothers and a sister—whose early years together in Asheville formed the foundation of the strong family bonds she would continue to nurture.
To honor Nora’s remarkable life, a Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 2:30 p.m., at Pisgah View Memorial Park located at 1529 Smokey Park Highway, Candler, NC 28715. Family and friends are invited to attend and pay their respects to a woman whose kindness and love touched so many.
Nora Benson’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her, and her legacy of generosity, care and family devotion will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
Anders Rice & Roper Funeral Home and Cremation Center is honored to serve Nora's family.
