Rev. Nelson N. Pelep

Rev. Nelson N. Pelep, a dedicated public servant and beloved family man, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026, in Asheville, North Carolina at the age of 73. Born on October 30, 1952, in Micronesia, Nelson devoted his life to serving others through both his pastoral work and his significant political career.

Nelson was the Chief of his Village in Micronesia for many years and for 38 years, he served as a State Senator for the Federated States of Micronesia, where he was esteemed for his leadership and commitment to his constituents. He held the esteemed position of speaker for eight consecutive years, becoming a respected figure in the legislative landscape. His contributions to governance were matched only by his dedication to the faith community as the Pastor of Wapar Church since 2004.

Nelson’s legacy will be carried forward by his loving wife, Nieves Gomez Pelep, and their children: Nicelynn Pelep, Beautyleen Pelep, Shirlynn Pelep and husband Anderson Edumnd, Thelma Johnny, Sinakto Pelep and wife Lani Falcam Pelep, and Tanya Pelep and husband Jimmy Peter. Nelson took great pride in his role as a father and was deeply cherished by his 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He also shared a close bond with his siblings: Nelsihna Shelten, Lolihda Henry, Linda Kulat, Eltes Pelep, Kelsin Pelep, Norma Pelep, and Lorna Pelep, alongside many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Nelson was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson Pelep and Estelle Etse Pelep; as well as his son-in-law, Yoster Johnny; and his grandson, Yeoman Johnny. He also mourned the loss of his siblings, Wetson Pelep and Rosehda Joseph.

A funeral service to honor Rev. Nelson N. Pelep will be held on March 14, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Chapel of Anders Rice & Roper Funeral Home in Asheville, NC.
