Robert "Bob" Carl Colburn, passed away peacefully and went home to be with The Lord on Friday, June 26, 2026, at the Mountain View Manor in Bryson City. He was born on October 19, 1945, in Putnam, Connecticut, and in the years since, touched the lives of all who had the privilege to know him.
Bob proudly served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, answering his nation’s call with courage and integrity. After his service, Bob built a longstanding career at Bath Iron Works Ship Yard in Bath, Maine, where he dedicated many years of hard work before retiring.
Bob is survived by his daughters: Barbara Ann Colburn Swain and husband Mike, Charlotte Lynn Colburn Rhodes and husband Dean, and Heather Lee Colburn Vargas and husband Olmedo; his step-son, Shane Anthony Wilson and wife Amy; grandchildren: Ryan, Skye, Jonathan, Meredith, Gabriel, Amelia, Autumn and Cody; sister, Doreen Gerardi; brother, Edward Colburn; his fourteen nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews; as well as his special friend, Millie Owenby; and long-time friend and neighbor, Lance Graves and wife Maggie Ward.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Julene Rhodes Colburn, who passed away on December 6, 2022; his parents, James Benjamin Colburn, and Florence Lucille Bernier; his sister, Carol Notarianni; and his brother, James Colburn.
Throughout his life, Bob embodied the values of loyalty, humility, and kindness. His steadfast presence, sense of humor, and unwavering support endeared him to all. He leaves behind a legacy of service.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, August 1, 2026, in the Chapel of Anders Rice & Roper Funeral Home with Military Funeral Honors provided by the North Carolina National Guard Honor Guard. His family will receive friends immediately following the service. A private burial will be held at a later date at the Sluder Family Cemetery.
Bob Carl Colburn will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those fortunate enough to have known him.
