Robert William "Bob" Zentz, born on December 4, 1936, in Buncombe County, NC, passed peacefully on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at his home in Marshall, VA, surrounded by his beloved family. A long-time resident of the area and a dedicated U.S. Army veteran, Robert made significant contributions throughout his life, not only through his career in the printing industry but also during his many years of service with the U.S. Treasury Department in Washington, DC, until his retirement.
Robert demonstrated a profound commitment to his community and faith. A longtime member of Braddock Church in Virginia, he exemplified a loving spirit, holding a deep love for the Lord. His selflessness was evident in his interactions with others; he consistently prioritized the needs of those around him, offering help and support whenever necessary. He had a passion for music, often found playing his guitar and singing, sharing the joy of music with his family and friends.
Robert's life was one filled with meaningful connections. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Linda Gail Sams Zentz; their children: Clint Robert Zentz and wife Coryn, Rita Gail Farmer and husband Mark, Clay William Zentz and fiancée Sheila, and Lisa Ann Dishmon and husband Dave. He leaves behind a legacy embodied in his grandchildren: Jordon Zentz and wife Emily, Noah Zentz, Jacob Farmer, Nick Zentz, Kailee Williams and husband Colton, Ryan Dishmon, Logan Dishmon, and Cooper Zentz; as well as his great-grandchildren: Haisley Farmer, and Jackson Zentz. Additionally, Robert is remembered fondly by many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Henry Zentz and Dora Mae Zentz Black; a cherished grandson, Joshua Farmer; sisters: Jessie Zentz, Dorothy Burnette, Marjorie Ramsey, Ruth Brezina; and brothers, Johnny Zentz and Von J. Black.
Friends and family are invited to honor Robert's life in the Chapel of Anders Rice & Roper Funeral Home in Asheville, NC, with a visitation from 11:00 AM until 11:45 AM and a funeral service at 12:00 PM on Monday, December 8, 2025, offering loved ones the opportunity to remember the remarkable man he was. Pastor Larry Sprouse will officiate. Robert William Zentz's spirit will forever remain a guiding light in the hearts of those who knew him.
Following his service, his body will be laid to rest at Pisgah View Memorial Park in Candler with Military Funeral Honors conducted by the North Carolina National Guard Honor Guard.
