Rometta Buchanan Dean

Asheville - Rometta Buchanan Dean, 89, passed away Friday, June 30, 2023, at her residence.

A native of Mitchell County, she had resided in Asheville since 1956, and was a daughter of the late Bryson and Edith Woody Buchanan, and the wife of the late Scott Coleman Dean. She was also preceded in death by her seven siblings, and great-granddaughter, Julia Shaye Israel.

She was a longtime member of West Asheville Baptist Church, a former beautician, and later served as a teacher’s assistant at Vance Elementary School for many years.

She is survived by her son, Gregory Scott Dean and daughter, Pamela D. Israel and husband Ed; granddaughter, Amanda Israel-Conitzer and husband Ruben; grandson, Bradley Scott Israel; great-grandchildren, Ariella, Auvner (Avi), and Allma. She is also survived by a brother, Martin William Buchanan.

Graveside services will be held at 10 AM Monday, July 3, 2023, at Green Hills Cemetery, with Rev. Tony Hooper officiating.
