It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Rorey Hipps, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, who left us unexpectedly on Friday, May 9, 2026, in his hometown of Asheville. Born on June 20, 1986, Rorey was a lifelong resident of Asheville, where his vibrant spirit and zest for life touched the hearts of many.
Rorey was a graduate of Owen High School, Class of 2004. Over the past eight years, he dedicated himself to his career at The Barksdale, where he earned the affectionate title of "Asheville's Best Bartender." His charm, skill, and warmth behind the bar made him a fixture in the community and a cherished figure among patrons and colleagues alike.
A man who truly lived life to its fullest, Rorey embraced every moment with passion and excitement. Known for his love of adrenaline, he thrilled in skateboarding, becoming a well-loved member of Asheville’s skateboarding community. His adventurous soul also found joy in bowling, hiking, fishing, and particularly water hole jumping, never missing a chance to experience new and exhilarating jumps. His contagious enthusiasm and fearless approach to life inspired thousands of friends throughout Asheville.
Rorey's family mourns his loss deeply. He is survived by his loving mother, Traci Terry, and her husband, Ron; his devoted father, Kevin Hipps; and his cherished sister, Kristen Hipps. He was the proud uncle of Elena Jade Williams. His paternal grandmother, Eudorah Hipps, also survives him. He leaves behind a large, extended family of many brothers of other mothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends who felt the warmth of his friendship and the strength of his spirit.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Lenoir Hipps, and his maternal grandparents, Marie Marci and Don Dutoi.
Rorey's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him. His fearless joy for life, his boundless energy, and his unwavering kindness will be remembered and cherished by the community he loved so much. Asheville has lost one of its brightest lights, but his legacy of love, adventure, and friendship will continue to shine for all who had the privilege to know him.
A time of celebration of Rorey's life will be held at the Foundation Skate Park on Friday May 16th, 2026 at 3pm.
May Rorey Hipps rest in peace, forever remembered as a man who embraced life with open arms and inspired others to do the same.
