Russell "Keith" Jones went home to be with his Lord on Monday, May 18, 2026, peacefully at his home in McDowell County. Born on November 17, 1968, in Buncombe County, Keith’s life was marked by faith, dedication, and a deep love for his family and community.
A proud graduate of Owen High School’s class of 1987, Keith went on to serve his country with distinction in the United States Army, where he fulfilled his duties as a tank driver and material handler. His commitment to service extended beyond his military career, as he spent many years working for BorgWarner, contributing to his community and workplace with steadfast dedication.
Those who knew Keith remember him for his passion for the outdoors. He found joy in cutting trees, tending his yard, fishing, and playing mini-golf. His enthusiasm for sports was evident in his enjoyment of NASCAR races and rooting for his favorite teams, including the Atlanta Braves, Dallas Cowboys, and the University of North Carolina. Above all, Keith treasured time spent with his daughters and grandson, embodying a deep and abiding love for all his family.
Keith made his assurance in the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior, and his faith was a guiding force throughout his life, especially in his later months. He went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, leaving behind a legacy grounded in love and devotion.
He is survived by his mother, Phyllis Plemmons Sexton; father, George "Russell" Jones; daughters: Ashley Jones Meadows and her husband Justin, and Makenzy Alma Jones; his grandson, Sawyer Meadows; sister, Erica Jones and her fiancé Justin; sister-in-law, Kim Jones; nephews: Tyler Jones and Jordan Blankenship; niece, Holly Huntsinger; and his special friend, Paula Briggs. Their lives were enriched immeasurably by his presence and love.
Keith was preceded in death by his stepmother, Gwenda Jones; stepfather, Jerry Sexton; brother, Chad Jones; and grandson, Nathaniel Jacob, who all welcomed him into heaven on Monday afternoon.
Visitation will be held in the Chapel of Anders Rice & Roper Funeral Home, located at 1428 Patton Avenue in Asheville, North Carolina, on Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow at the same location on Friday, May 22, 2026, beginning at 9:45 a.m. with Rev. David King and Rev. Jimmy Page officiating. Interment will take place at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 962 Old US Highway 70, Black Mountain, North Carolina, at 12:00 p.m. on the same day with Military Funeral Honors by the North Carolina National Guard Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Keith's memory to his family to assist with funeral expences, care of Anders Rice & Roper Funeral Home.
Russell "Keith" Jones will be remembered not only for his steadfast service and love of life but also for the warmth and kindness he extended to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those he loved so dearly.
