Ruth Presnell Belcher, 81, of Asheville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, August 8, 2026.
Born on November 3, 1944, in Burke County, North Carolina, Ruth was the daughter of the late Lee and Virginia Presnell. She was raised in Burke County but, following her graduation from Glen Alpine high school. She moved to Asheville and attended Blantons business college, where she earned an associate degree.
Ruth devoted many years to her career as a secretary, working for several attorneys throughout her professional life. She later served as a secretary for the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, from which she retired after many years of dedicated service.
Ruth was a woman of strong faith who will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her steadfast work ethic, her kindness, and her wonderful sense of humor. She was a longtime member of the Asheville Booster Club, where she proudly dedicated more than thirty years of service. Ruth also held a special place in her heart for Bridgewater Presbyterian Church in Morganton, North Carolina, where she attended during her early years and formed cherished memories.
Above all, Ruth treasured her family and the time she spent with those she loved. Her family was a source of great joy throughout her life, and the love and memories she shared with them will remain a lasting part of her legacy.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her former husband, Charles Harry Belcher; her brother, John Presnell; and her sister, Mary Greene.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Scott Belcher and wife, Cindy, and Charles Belcher Jr.; grandchildren, Bonnie Limburg and husband, Logan, Cassidy Belcher, and Ashley Belcher; great-grandchild, Palmer Limburg; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026, in the chapel of Anders Rice & Roper Funeral Home and Cremation Center, with Matthew Roberts officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home, prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Ruth will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
