Ruth Crowder Filkins

Asheville - Ruth Lee Crowder Filkins, 77, formerly of 41 Shelby Road died Wednesday February 12, 2003 at Aston Park Health Care Center after a period of declining health. A lifelong resident of Asheville, she was a lifetime member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She graduated from Emma School in 1942 and retired from Asheville Mfg. after 25 years of service. She was a daughter of the late Jess L. and Pansy Riddle Crowder and the wife of the late Gus. F. Filkins. She was also preceded in death by her brothers; John, Harvey, Charles and Cecil Crowder and a granddaughter, Crystal Crowder Banks. Surviving are her son, James Charles Crowder of Asheville; step-son, Frank Filkins of Sandusky, Mich; sisters, Rachel Ogle and Dorothy Hyatt both of Asheville and Linda Swayngim of Hickory; grandson, James Charles Crowder, Jr. of Asheville; great granddaughter, Jessica Dawn Banks; great grandsons, Justin David Banks, Christopher Kirk Crowder, Cody Kyle Faulkner and Colby Chase Crowder; 4 step grandchildren and 9 step great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Keith Watkins, H.L. Wilson and Ebb Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 P. M. Friday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
