Shirley Jane Israel Littrel

Shirley Jane Israel Littrel, 89, of Leicester, went home to be with The Lord on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, in Asheville. She was born on March 27, 1937, in Buncombe County.

Shirley was a devoted worker who spent many years at Erwin High School, where she served as a custodian until her retirement. During those years, she also worked summers in housekeeping with Howard Johnson. She was known as someone who valued hard work and steady dedication throughout her life.

She found great joy in the outdoors, especially in her garden, where she loved tending her plants. Family was at the center of her life, and she treasured time spent with those she loved. She cared deeply about her children and grandchildren and took a constant interest in their lives. She also had a special fondness for her many cats and enjoyed working puzzles.

Shirley is survived by her children: Cricket Christopher, Ron Perez, Richard Littrel, and Lisa Lance (Ed). She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Lori, Colby (Arianne), Manny (Jalen), and Sierra (Tommy); and her great-grandchildren: Haley (Logan), Kaesyn, Jimma, Stella, Riley, and Hayes. She is also survived by her sister, Virginia Lamb; and many nieces and nephews. Her family will remember her with love for the care, concern, and devotion she gave so freely.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Webb Israel, Jr. and Blanche Revis Israel; her husband, Leroy Littrel, who passed away on July 8, 1983; her son, Gregory Littrel; sons-in-law, Lance and Jeff; and her siblings: Ray, Gary, Revonda, and Junior.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until 12:45 p.m. in the Chapel of Anders Rice & Roper Funeral Home, 1428 Patton Avenue, Asheville, North Carolina 28806. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Leon James officiating. Burial follow at Grace United Methodist Church Cemetery, 876 Newfound Road, Leicester, North Carolina 28748.

Shirley will be remembered for her hardworking spirit, her love of family, and the simple joys that filled her days. Her memory will remain a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
