Arden – Steve Ballew, 84, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 19, 2024, at his home while surrounded by his family.
A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late William Dillard Ballew and Virtie Verdell Mashburn Ballew. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Rice.
Mr. Ballew was a Veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and a longtime member of Oteen Baptist Church. He loved his family and was an accomplished stone mason.
Surviving are his loving wife of 45 years, Betty Ballew; children: Doug Ballew and wife Sherry, Jimmy Early and wife Tina, Jean Laughter and husband Carl, and Donna Early; grandchildren: Steven Early and wife Lamanda, Kevin Early and wife Cady, Jessica Roselli and husband Bruno, Dalton Laughter and wife Everlyn, Nathan Ballew, Kayla Trivette and husband Charles, and Ashton Early; great-grandchildren: Lucas, Noah, Harley, Alliyah, Claire, Gabriel, and Rose; siblings: Martha Huffman and husband James, Mary Fortner, Louise Bradley, and Dillard Ballew and wife Julie; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, January 23, 2024, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
The family will receive friends from 1 till 2 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to Oteen Baptist Church, 37 Oteen Church Rd, Asheville, NC 28805.
