Thom Hill

Louis Thompson (Thom) Hill, Jr. died peacefully at home after a four month battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer. 

Born to Louis Thompson Hill, Sr and Helen (Hammond) Hill in Raleigh, NC, the family soon moved to Cary, NC while it was still a small town. He graduated from Cary High School Class of 1970 and UNC - Chapel Hill School of Journalism in 1974, In 1975 he married Priscilla (Edwards) Hill, formerly of Goldsboro, NC, and they began a grand adventure together for 51 years. Thom worked with The Salisbury Post, Salisbury, NC and The Raleigh News and Observer. While business editor with the News and Observer, Thom’s career moved over to the Research Triangle Park working for Northern Telecom (later Nortel Networks) in Raleigh, then to Atlanta, Nashville and Dallas in the area of marketing and communications. After getting caught in the tech wreck of 2000, Thom and Priscilla built a home in Black Mountain, NC and Thom became certified as a firefighter and Intermediate EMT and worked for 10 years with the Black Mountain Fire Department. He always said this was the most fulfilling job he had. With old age looming, The Hills moved off the mountain into a one story home in Asheville, NC with a huge fenced in yard for the many foster dogs they were able to save over the years. Many wonderful stories and happy families were formed during this time.

Thom is survived by his wife, Priscilla; spoiled mutts, Misty and Arlo; brother-in-law, Josh Talton; nephew, Gabe Talton (Holly); niece, Lauren Talton Daniel (Seth); three great nephews; several cousins and countless friends. He is predeceased by his parents; sister, Irene Hill Talton; soul dogs, Clementine, Joe, and Lola; and many other four legged beasts that crossed his threshold throughout the years.
