Toru August

Toru August passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at his home in Candler, North Carolina. He was born on December 17, 1968, in the Marshall Islands.

Toru will be remembered as a man who loved his family deeply and found joy in caring for those around him. He especially enjoyed cooking for the people he loved, sharing both meals and fellowship in a way that reflected his warmth and devotion. His love for family was at the heart of his life and will remain a lasting part of how he is remembered.

He is survived by his sisters: Merilyn Lalita and her husband Junior Milne, and Heliana Lalita and her husband Dashter Bien; his brothers: Danny Lalita and his wife Elina Jacklick, and Junior George. He also leaves behind the many cherished bonds of family and friendship that surrounded his life. Toru was preceded in death by his mother, Benuk Lalita.

Family and friends will be invited to gather in remembrance of Toru at Anders Rice & Roper Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 1428 Patton Ave, Asheville, North Carolina 28806, for visitation and funeral services. Burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery, 25 New Leicester Highway, Asheville, North Carolina 28806. The date and time will be announced soon, please check back.
