Verna E. Coates

Asheville Verna Ellen Coates, 91, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at the Western North Carolina Baptist Home where she had resided for the past 10 years. A native of Chippewa County, Wisconsin, she retired as an Elementary School Teacher and had taught at Pisgah Elementary School in Candler for many years. She was the daughter of the late Harald and Alice Andersen Coates. Surviving are several nieces, nephews and her church family. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Thursday, May 5, 2016 at the Salvation Army Church, 750 Haywood Road, with Major Mark Satterlee officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. There will be a receiving of friends one hour prior to services at the church.
