Vernise Owenby Mcfarland

Vernise Owenby McFarland, 87, of Asheville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at her daughters home. A native of Buncombe County she was the daughter of the late Baxter and Minnie McAbee Owenby. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Grover McFarland, Jr.; nine brothers and sisters; and a granddaughter, Angi Carithers. She is survived by her children: Deby Ward and her husband Brian of Swannanoa, Carolyn Bishop, and Bruce Hunsinger and his wife Paula, both of Black Mountain; two great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Graveside services will be held at 3 PM Sunday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. James Lamb officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 2:30 PM Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
